Welcome to Shagbark, the Carew Family "camp". Shagbark began in 1964 with humble tent sites and a camp kitchen. Four generations of family have participated in the evolution of our rustic gathering place into what you see today.

As you wander about our grounds and buildings, we hope you will get a sense of our family’s values and history...the many campfires and sing-a-longs, the family games, the shared meals, the many improvement and maintenance projects, and the swimming fun are all shared memories, our family traditions. You may notice the granite memorial stones scattered throughout the property. Don’t be alarmed, nobody is buried here! This is our way of honoring family members who have contributed to Shagbark but are no longer with us.

Our hope is that your family or retreat group will discover the magic of Shagbark. May your vacation here be leisurely, fun, and reflect a loving connection among your family or group.
